Ningxia: Patent applications filed by Halal industry rank second in China

Halal industry has filed 3,190 patent applications from 1985 to October, 2012, 857 of which stemmed from  Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, ranking second in China, as indicated by a report analyzing the intellectual property of halal food and Muslim supplies industry conducted by Yinchuan Productivity Promotion Center.

The report analyzes the status quo and patent trend of halal industry, and refers to HALAL international certification. Meanwhile, it also studies foreign halal industry. A corresponding database is expected to be built up.

The report shows 97% of Ningxia patent applications are on designs. Problems and potentials co-exist. While the development of the west regions, mutual authentication and China-Arab States Economic and Trade Forum fuel its growth, patents with low technical content, small-scale operations and tight market impede its progress in international Muslin market.
