National meeting on exchanging copyright related experience kicked off in Hefei

A national experience exchange meeting focusing on copyright demonstration initiatives kicked off on April 15 in Hefei City of Anhui Province. Suzhou City and Kunshan City were awarded as the “National Copyright Demonstration City”, and Chinese Online Digital Publishing Co. Ltd., China Light & Textile Industries City, ZhangQiu Longshan Black Pottery Development Center and Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Creative Center were dubbed as “National Copyright Demonstration Organ, Park (Base)”. As of now, 5 cities, 8 departments and 9 parks (bases) had been honored as copyright demonstration entities in China.

Yan Xiaohong, Deputy Director of the State General Administration of Press and Publication, Radio and Television and Director of National Copyright Administration, attended and addressed the meeting. He said it was not only a victory meeting where the advanced individuals and collectives were commenced but also a pep rally encouraging stakeholders to actively take part in copyright career. It marked a new step forward in copyright section, said Yan.
  

Yan highlighted the importance of copyright demonstration initiative and put forward clear requirements for the next step. “It was essential to construct an innovation-driven country as the 18th Party Congress proposed to implement intellectual property strategies and enhance intellectual property protection,” added Yan.

He also pointed out the deficiencies copyright undertaking confronted, including insufficient creativity in works, business model not sound enough to operate cultural works, malicious infringement yet not being strongly punished and inadequate management over copyright assets.

Such problems were inevitable as copyright system had been set up for a short time, but how to solve existing problems was of key interest, said Yan. He believed copyright demonstration initiative was within the trend of China’s social development and was concerned about by international organizations as well as forward-looking enterprises and local governments. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) set demonstration bases of excellent cases of copyright protection in Nantong City of Jiangsu Province and Dehua City of Fujian Province, marking China’s copyright had entered a stage of creation, utilization and protection, as Yan introduced.
 
Yan Xiaohong said that the National Copyright Administration would accelerate the copyright demonstration construction work. He hoped local copyright administrative departments became fully aware of the importance of this work in promoting industrial development.

It was the second meeting of this kind the National Copyright Administration held since 2011. Other officials, including Ci Ke at the Management Division of the National Copyright Administration Copyright , Deputy Secretary General Wu Xing of Anhui Provincial Government, Director Guo Yongnian of Anhui Provincial Copyright Bureau, attended the meeting.
