Shanghai IPR Joint Conference Office conducts investigation on new plant variety

2013/11/05

Shanghai IPR Joint Conference Office conducted an investigation on new plant varieties (NPV) in Shanghai Botanical Garden with other interested parties, including the Office’s members, Shanghai municipal Development and Reform Commission, Business Commission, Science and Technology Commission, Copyright Office and Intellectual Property Office.

An official of the Garden introduced the current status and development trend of NPV creation, utilization, protection and administration. While confronted with high and long-term input cost, the industrialization of NPV is also blocked with narrow marketing channels and high rights-safeguarding cost. To this end, the investigation team illustrated relevant innovation and R&D supporting polices as well as other measures aimed to encourage IP creation.

In recent years, Shanghai Botanical Garden has achieved remarkable results in IPR creation, NPV applications and commercialization. In 2012, it ranked 5th nationwide in terms of NPV grants in forestry area and filed patent applications for NPV cultivation methods in other countries.
