China's First Conference on Domain Name Convened

On June 4, with the theme of "Standardization, Innovation and Development", China's first conference on domain name was held with general attention from domestic and international Internet industries.

It was learnt from the conference, the scale of domain name-related sectors in China surpasses 4.2 billion yuan, and people working on it exceed 100,000.

Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xi Guohua, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shi Erwei, Director General of Internet Society of China and Academician Hu Qiheng, Director of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) Mao Wei, along with experts from Internet-related organizations at home and abroad such as ICANN, Neustara and Dotasia, attended the meeting.

The CNNIC released "Report on China's Domain Name Industry" at the conference, which is China's first systematic research report on the status of domain name industry. The Report shows that after more than ten years of development, China's domain name industry has begun to take shape with the rise of Internet area and already gained a great deal of attention.

The participating experts recommended that as the security environment of Internet is increasingly complex, the security of domain name system will be elevated to the height of strategy, because a stable and secure domain name service system is the foundation of the sustainable development of domain name industry. For this purpose, the entire industry should get together in industrial self-discipline and fight against adverse applications, and do a lot of works to improve system security functions.

As a high-end summit in the field of domain name, the organizing committee of the first conference on domain name also held a series of sub-forums so as to achieve the sustainable development of the domain name industry, from the angles of the application of enterprises' domain name, legal norms on domain name, technical support, domain name services, etc., and conducted in-depth exploration on domestic domain name industry.
