JPO Agreed to Start PPH Pilot Program with INPI and INAPI

Commissioner Komiya visited the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) of Chile on March 14. And on March 16, he attended “The Seminar on Cooperation in Intellectual Property between Brazil and Japan.” Taking the opportunity of the visit and the seminar, Commissioner Komiya held meetings with the National Director Santa Cruz of the INAPI and President Pimentel of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil.
At the meetings, the JPO agreed to start a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program with the INPI on April 1, 2017 and with the INAPI on August 1, 2017. The use of the PPH program will enable Japanese companies and other entities to obtain patent rights at an early stage in Brazil and Chile.
