JPO Deputy Commissioner Visited ASEAN Member States to Exchange Opinions on Intellectual Property

Mr. Shimano, Deputy Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO) visited Brunei, Singapore  and Thailand recently and exchanged opinions on Intellectual Property.
In Brunei the JPO agreed with the Brunei Darussalam Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO) on the commencement of new patent examination cooperation (PPH Plus). Mr. Kato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam from the Japanese side and Mr. Hamdan, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office from the Brunei side attended in the ceremony concerning the agreement of this cooperation.?
In Singapore Mr. Shimano participated in the “Global Forum on IP” and spoke at the Forum on the subject of a role of the Japan Patent Office aimed at sustained economic growth in front of an audience of over 500. Furthermore, a panel discussion was presented with heads of the IP Offices in each country. During this seminar, the JPO and the JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) co-hosted a special session on the subject of “Ideas to Assets: Driving the Future Economy with Intellectual Property”.
In Thailand Mr. Shimano also visited the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand and exchanged opinions with Mr. Thosapone, Director General of the DIP concerning future cooperation in the field of industrial property.
The JPO will continue to fortify its cooperation with IP offices in the ASEAN regions and support companies in further facilitating their international business development.
