SIPO Actively Attends In-Depth Exchanges With KIPO and JPO in 2017 TRIPO Heads Meeting
On December 6, the TRIPO Heads Meeting was held in Korea. Commissioner of SIPO Shen Changyu, KIPO Commissioner Sung Yunmo and JPO Commissioner Naoko Munakata attended it. They signed Minutes of 2017 TRIPO Heads Meeting. The three offices reported on the latest developments in the intellectual property work in their respective countries and conducted in-depth exchanges on cooperation in the fields of review, design etc. In addition, they exchanged views on the feasibility of the newly added cooperation topics, discussed and adopted the framework of cooperation between the three offices and the cooperation logo. It was also decided that the next meeting would be held in China in 2018.
 
The 7th BIP ASIA Forum Sees the MOU Signed between HKTDC and China’s Eastern Tech-Transfer Center
On December 7, the Business of Intellectual Property Asia (BIP Asia) Forum 2017, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Hong Kong Design Centre, was held in Hong Kong. Entitled “IP & Innovation: Propelling Change, Growth and Connectivity”, the BIP Asia Forum featured more than 80 heavyweight speakers and attracted over 2,500 participants. During the forum, the HKTDC signed a memorandum of understanding with National Eastern Tech-Transfer Center to forge a strategic partnership to promote IP information exchange and cooperation in Asia.
 
The First Seminar on IP Judicial Protection & Technological Innovation Holds in Shanghai
On December 13, the first Seminar on IP Judicial Protection & Technological Innovation concluded in Shanghai, which was organized by IP Judicial Protection & Technological Innovation Research (Shanghai) Base of the Supreme People’s Court and Shanghai Law Society and co-organized by Shanghai IP Court. More than 100 professionals and scholars from State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C. (SIPO), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Tsinghua University and East China University of Political Science and Law etc. attended this conference that stressed to fully play the leading role of judicial protection and provide a reasonable, steady and sustainable environment of occupational invention system for technological innovation.
 
Zhejiang Hithink Loses Dispute with Wind to Pay 3.35 Million RMB
This case, regarded as the first one in the field of China’s IP over stock, finance and information can date back to 2012 that Zhejiang Hithink Flush Information Network Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang Hithink) was sued by larger rival Wind Information Technology Co. Ltd. (Wind). Wind claimed that Zhejiang Hithink was imitating its product, and that Zhejiang Hithink had to stop using the iFinD software that Wind said was essentially a copy of Wind’s operating software. Finally after 5 years battle, recently the case was sentenced by Shanghai Higher People’s Court that Zhejiang Hithink should pay Wind 3.35 Million Yuan.
 
China's Patent Applications Exceed One Million From Jan. to Oct.
China saw over 1.04 million patent applications from January to October this year, up by 5.8 percent year on year. Some 39,000 international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) were received during the period, increasing by 11.3 percent from the previous year. More than 34,000 administrative cases on patents were handled in the ten months, a 19.8-percent yearly increase, while pilots were launched in six places, including Changsha and Shenzhen, to reform the management system of intellectual property and make it more efficient.
